I created a Minecraft stage by using a couple snapshots, textures, and GIMP. The rest is done by editing the training stage that came with MUGEN, and adding my own edits, and a little trial-and-error. And I really need feedback on this. When my brother gets the mobs ripped, I will add them as well.

Mugen is a way for me to remain nostalgic with all of the dream matches I cooked up as a kid. It's also what I call a "Digital Action Figure Collection."

Having not played Minecraft, what I understand of it is the low graphics are done on purpose, so I'm not sure if this is how it would appear in game or not.  But the huge black hole in the rock on the right of the stage looks really out of place.

Is this where you plan to add these mobs, or is it part of the finished background?

The huge black hole is supposed to look like a cave entrance. Any suggestions as to how to make it look better?

just cover it with the texture of that wall, in Minecraft those could look fine but is not the case here

Alright, I'll do that then. It also wouldn't hurt to add a little coal ore as well. :P

If it's a cave, then just show some of the inside of the cavern.  Perhaps one of those....cactus people from the game that I can't remember.  They can only stay in the dark, if I recall, so showing it at the edge, wanting to interupt the battle but can't do to it being daytime, seems like something that would bring some life to it.

Actually, Creepers can go outside. Skeletons and Zombies would be a better idea. Though I would have Creepers in the background because they are considered the icon mob of Minecraft.

Whatever monster works best, just something to draw attention to the cave.  Having these Creepers roaming free might seem a bit...odd to see in the background, if their purpose is to chase anything moving and become a suicide bomb when they get close enough to it.

If Minecraft has them, perhaps a fence seperating the fighters from the background?

Although i like minecraft, given the depth of the world i think you could do a LOT more than this. You need way more layers and far more in the background to give it a "big" feel. Right now it's a stage that hails to the one sprite methodology. More sprites, show some trees, add a proper mountain in the background, that sorta thing. Make it look like it's 10 miles deep.

I've heard news of you from a friend, Zyph. Anyways. i think personally, turning that black transparent, then taking a screenshot of the inside of a cave would work, because if you were to just add wall blocks, it'd look stiff, it takes a lot of 3D depth perception to draw the inside of the cave, and with the way those textures are looped, it's real hard to tell where one ends and another begins. I reccomend screenshots as reference, and maybe tracing them if the style clashes.
I've made plenty of originally drawn stages in the past.

Psh, Creeper has been in Minecraft for some time.  ::)  ::)  ::)

Anyway, I would actually suggest taking a different approach in making a Minecraft stage.  Instead of drawing some lines and filling them in with textures from Minecraft (and making an extremely oversized tree), maybe you could take a nice screenshot of a Minecraft forest.  If you want to add animation, you could take another screenshot of the clouds in the game and have them move from left to right in the sky.  Or include a cave in the initial screenshot and place some torches inside and animate those.  It shouldn't require too much work.

People need to stop using 4Shared, already.

In all honesty. I'd sort of agree, but you see so many game ripped scenes. and it doesn't go well with simple 2D characters. I kind of have a fondness for stages that are drawn, like this one. It gives them a more unique feel, and I feel it's very creative, too.

Add some monuments. Such as a house or building, give it some more life.

So far I agree with what everyone here has said. But what I do for my mc stages is build the arena in MC itself, and then use the screenshot function in-game (F1 to disable HUD, F2 to screencap) and then edit from there. Might I suggest some of MC's leaf blocks, and have them be transparent in a top layer, so that they "move" with the screen, and give the effect of depth? There's a lot you can do with the textures of the game :P
When my brother gets the mobs ripped, I will add them as well.
You do realize you can just extract the mob textures and organize them from the .jar itself, right?
Code:
%appdata%\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar\mob
All the textures for the mobs are RIGHT there
It's just the same as if you went into:
Code:
%appdata%\.minecraft\bin\minecraft.jar\terrain.png
and extracted the individual tile textures :P

If you see a Diverien, it's almost definitely me. So say hi :D

Consider learning parallax for the cave part. You borrowed the The End portal texture, it seems. Have the inside of the cave shift intuitively as the characters move.
