Felo, DARK!! and SEYLOS are the same person. I know it because he posted the same way (CAPS LOCK) in another forum too and he posted about his creations too.

He made those sprites, maybe editing some other people's work, maybe not.
Also, Felo, you might want to calm down and not swear left and right.

Honestly this could have been handled better.

I agree with some people that this topic could be posted in the Resource Releases, since the author isn't really going to continue the character and is releasing resources for others to be used.

CAPS LOCK is not needed here.

"Less is more" is not right in this case, you're just trying to find excuses to not put the actual effort in making a CvS styled sprite.
Less is more? Then make the sprites 3 colours total.
Come on.

Kakuge Yaro sprites are not CvS styled, they're not similar to Capcom's styles of sprites.

You're not trying to make CvS sprites, the other times when you posted sprites that looked like Alpha sprites you posted them here erroneously, just because Capcom did it (yeah? Then Darkstalkers sprites are CvS too, following your reasoning, but guess what? They're not).
And now you're simplifying sprites to have less colours, ruining the look of the sprite.

I think the reason you feel like you can't do anything else after the Takuma / Mr Karate sprites is because at the time you were using CvS sprites (mainly Ryu) to make them look right. Now you're trying different things, maybe you're lazy and that's fine, but you're not posting the sprites you're making in the right place.

At this point you should just open your own graphics topic and post your sprites there, there's no real reason to post your sprites here or in the other themed sprite topics if you're refusing to follow the style of the themes themselves.

Does that mean you're going to improve or at least make the sprites consistent with the style, or are you just saying that to ignore everything?

See, there's a problem, they don't look like CvS sprites, like in the last Krauser sprite you have the pants with two colours and a dark outline (same for the skin, two tones and a dark outline), which is not how Capcom handled shading for the CvS sprites.

CvS doesn't use 8 (7+BG) colours for the sprites, it uses 16 (15+BG) colours. Make use of all of them.
Also no details on his body make it look a little empty.


This is how I made it in CvS a long time ago:


when I made it I made sure to have references near the sprites I was editing.

To be honest the one you made 8 months ago is superior to the new one you posted:

it would actually fit in a fake screenshot, barring some minor details on the shin pads.
I don't know why you're remaking the same sprite over and over again.

The palette has too much contrast, that's also why you're getting blind :mlol: but seriously, the skin tones are drastically different in luminosity, you could also re-use some colours in the sprite. Add some anti-alias too, especially in the skin.
The skin tones with the brown on the boots could have 5 colours, (instead of separating 3 colours for the skin and 2 for the boots)
the red 4, (you have just 2 and a pure black)
the yellow 3,
the hair 3.
15 colours.

That topic is to expand an existing spritesheet/sprite set.
If you're editing all the sprites (without adding to the original set) then that topic is not the right one.

You may want to start a topic in the Sprite Projects channel, granted that you have at least three animations done.

As for the initial question, like Odb said, there shouldn't be any problem in editing a character. Credit where credit is due.

The one shown here:


the modder found out a way to show the actual moves in the latest build of SFV. So essentially, it's scrapped material. Might still be useful.

At this point use AutoCLSN, you will make the character quicker.

The SFV Ryu picture you posted could be simplified like this:


imagine when someone jumps at you with all his body, I don't think just the knee will hurt you ("hey, you're on the ground so listen, just the knee hurts, even if you get the other foot in your face it doesn't actually hurt" ... that doesn't sound realistic)
so the flying Ryu CLSNs are ok.

The one on the floor could be changed in my opinion (even though they might have used the idle CLSNs). You could even use 3 blue CLSNs, one for the head, one for the body and one for the legs.
So you're actually right in saying that case is weird, but making all the CLSNs "skin-tight" isn't the proper solution (in my opinion).
But I think the real reason they were made that way is because the move should be more punishable. Still weird to have the air be hittable, but a trillion CLSNs are even weirder.

Aside from CLSN feedback, what help do you need? I know you're making the .sff, the .air :-\ and the coding, you probably know how to get sounds too. So what do you really need?

It's common sense. If it has to be explained I guess it's not so common.

Just be nice and helpful toward others.
Don't derail the topic.
Give constructive criticism.
Share your opinion only if it may improve the quality of the character/stage/screenpack/etc., not change it completely to suit your "needs" and tastes ("this is not in X style" doesn't help anybody).

I mean, if the topic is called "CvS2 Shingo" why do you say "Nice but I prefer Infinite style?" Don't you really see anything wrong with that?
You would want to help the author make the character more in line with CvS2, or at least find bugs in the character, or not?

If you released a character and I come to your topic and say "Nice, but I prefer this other one" it's a useless post that serves no purpose, helps no one, derails the topic (just like now) and it's rude to the author.

Not difficult to understand.

you're exaggerating now! And why is that hand not hittable, so that the character uses the get hit in the face/gut animation? The ass is invincible too! (to be honest I could have expanded the CLSN more to the right)

everything from tip to toe is hittable, each finger too for realism.

My point is that you're stressing over details that no one should care about.
And if we were to actually look at each details, for every attack there should be an appropriate get hit animation (attacking the left hand → left hand hurts animation, attacking the right hand → right hand hurts animation, back foot hit → back foot get hit animation, attacking the shins → shin hurting animation, attacking the knees → knees hurting animation etc. ) so many that at this point you should just simplify them.

The author is using 3D models to "make" the sprites, for a possible conversion in another style, with different filters.

- Shinku Tatsumaki helpers (vacuum helpers) can get hit and spawn a Ryu that disappears. You're missing a NotHitBy in their states.
- You forgot me in the credits for the sprites, like the knee attack (close medium kick) and the dodge. No big deal, just thought I should tell you.
- Speaking of sprites, I'm sure Balthazar made the Joudan Sokuto Geri (Donkey Kick) sprites better than what you're using (I'm guessing Reu's?).
- Any hitsound can be cancelled with another attack, even if it doesn't connect. It's easier to notice with Custom Combo but even just doing two light punches (and whiffing the second) does that.
- If you're quick enough, if you throw the c.MP twice, the second will not connect. Easier to get this problem in Custom Combo, but it's possible without it too.
- He can get power from any special move while in Custom Combo.
- The EX Hadouken, Shakunetsu and the different levels of Shinku Hadouken have shadow when they get parried/when they hit.
