I am happy to announce that Saito Hajime from the Rurouni Kenshin anime series is now available for MUGEN!



Summary:
- Like my other RK characters, Saito has 6 basic attack buttons
- charge type moves (like Blanka, Balrog, etc.) and able to counter/repel
- 3 desperation moves
- pretty loose combo system
- able to throw on the ground and on the air
- ability to air recover and sneak roll; can also perform a recovery attack
- you get to see a special victory cut scene when you defeat the opponent with a desperation move
- win quotes for Mugen 1.0 users

Saito already was a WIP when I started Mugen back in 2004 IIRC.

- Too bad you removed all the anti-aliasing when editing the sprites. It really feels like he's lacking a shade or two on his clothes.
- Remove all the "statetype = S" in your triggers in the CMD for specials and supers. You already have stateype!=A, and that's all you need. It really makes the supers hard to perform.
- Gatotsu ishiki is unbalanced as you made it invincible during the whole move. Make Saito hittable when the red CLSN appears on his sword. Invincibility during the dash to go through fireballs is already good enough.
- Gatotsu nishiki could get different vels depending on the button pressed.
- Same for the supers : they should be invincible only during startup, not during the actual move (except Zeroshiki maybe).

oh wow diddn't know that, I was playing mugen then to but I didn't see a vid of it on youtube untill two years ago  :S

Yea this character was 8 years in the making.. sort of.  I've been in and out of mugen ever since 2004.  At one point, I took a 4 year hiatus from mugen.  Saito wasn't even going to see a release at all until the kenshin franchise was revived last year with the psp game, new ova, new manga, and new live action movie.  I figured this was the best time to restart my kenshin mugen project.  ;D

Thanks to everyone for being so patient with this release.  Hopefully you enjoy playing as/vs him as I did creating him.

I have 3 characters in mind... Sanosuke, Enishi, or Okita Souji (the other shinsengumi capt from kenshin's past). I think I'll make a poll in the project section whenever I get the chance.

I was hoping you wouldn't remember that old abomination from back in the day haha.
- I am still learning how to shade but I will definitely work on improving on this for future updates.
- This will be fixed for the next update.
- I think I made a mistake with priorities on this one.  I'll extend the blue clsn to at least half of the sword. This will be fixed for the ishiki and the supers (except zeroshiki) in the update.
- I'll see what I can do for nishiki.

I'm already a step ahead of you.  I started Enishi with the basics last year. I am currently recoloring/adding sprites, ripping voices from the PSP game, and fixing collision boxes, damage dampener, etc.  Check out this preview if you haven't seen it already.

@ Vegaz_Parrelli: Thanks man!  I promise you there will be more to come.  I actually got Sano sprites (with spriter's permission of course) and a partner to help me edit/clean the sprites.  I have so many ideas for Sano (with and without zanbatou).  I think Sano will be my most ambitious project because he might be my first character to have the ability to drop his weapon.   :)

I'll update the project section with plans for MORE Rurouni Kenshin characters as soon as I get back from my vacation.

@ Izin: Very nice.. I didn't think Kenshin was going to beat him.  haha

left the world n came back and it STILL wuznt finished  ;D
grew my hair 2 my @ss N cut it off and grew it AGAIN lol + it STILL wasnt finished   ;D
   
might be a better idea 2 have those sprites ripped from tha get go next time
(so ppl like me dont think you were trolling or maybe running from the mafia or sumthin)

I just uploaded an update patch for Saito which you can download in the 1st post. 

It addresses the following:
+ Improved hitboxes for gatotsu moves... he should be more hittable now (tested with kungfu man)
+ Removed lifebar, BG, and FG elements during superpause
+ Supers are easier to perform now

I am also re-working the sprites with better shading while I'm not working on Enishi.  It will be implemented for the next update.  Here is the concept which I think is an improvement.. Enjoy!

As for Makimachi Misao, it is a possibility in the future. But not sure yet.
