The Nineteen Nineties and fighting games.

Street Fighter..Mortal Kombat..Virtua Fighter..Tekken..Soul Calibur...nearly all popular fighting game series of today were created in the Nineteen Nineties.

I tried to count the most important or at least unique games and game series together in that poll but know that there are uncounted other great fighting game and series not listed there. I am still playing some of the games today, and believe that some of the old games are even better in some corners than their sequels of today..but maybe thats just nostalgica when i play Killer Instinct via MAME as example and miss that every characer got an own stage and music as seen in so many games of the past. Of course rosters were smaller and so its maybe really just nostalgica.

The sense of polls like this one might be small, but maybe its a start to dicuss the old games and our favourite ones among them

Goddamn were many fighters released in those 10 years....

MightyKombat

There was a sig here. Its gone now (thanks photobucket ya fecks)

"Bad News" Hoffmann

Yeah..its so good it belongs there twice ^^

Nah..just forgot the third "I" somehow for SF3 and its updates and now i cant change the poll itself it seems...hope one of the mods changes it

Do we really need three seperate threads for this shit?

seriously? no, one  which is well done is enough.

Hyogo

You've made one, Segatron made one
and I assume one was made on a earlier date to make a third one?

"Bad News" Hoffmann

yarr..there was the bad one which a lot of the games and games series of the nineties not mentioned in the poll..the whole thread is to 80% about the missing games. So i made this one because i think its a interesting topic and included hopefully nearly all important fighters of the nineties. 5 Minutes later he made the third one which is the same as his previous one with some more series added.

Hyogo

Oh right, I see now :-X

SF2 Series, I still play SSF2T on Supercade with a professional friend of mine

SF3 Series, Troll-Li makes 3rd Strike worth playing since Supercade and OE are full of Shotoscrubs these days

Pocket Fighter, Honestly one of my favorites back when I had my PS2 and the SFA collection with this game included

Killer Instinct, I still use Spinal whenever I play it even though I cannot do his Ultra for shit anymore lmao

Mortal Kombat 1 - 4, Mortal Kombat 2 being the best of the 4 I still enjoy playing them time to time

"Bad News" Hoffmann

You still play Killer Instinct too sometimes? Nice, me as well..always via mame ..my most used character was and is probably Fulgore, i never liked KI II as much as the first one.

It was just great that Capcom added Pocket Fighter to the SF Alpha Anthology. In this rare case i would have prefered the ps1 version though since it had that nice long level with all those capcom character cameos

MAO11

any capcom fighting. back in the day only gaming elites could play neogeo/snk games and it wasn't really popular to the kids back then but after 2000 i saw a boom of snk/neogeo gamers we would play koof 2k2,samurai showdown and last blade at our local arcades and malls for hours.

Lil' Hurricane

I selected the SFEX series, Tekken series, Mortal Kombat series, KOF series, & the Marvel Vs. series. ;)

Moon Girard

This list is mediocre no Eternal Champions, Evil Zone, The first Power Stone, Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure or Dead or Alive 1(and 2 if it counts since the arcade version came out in 1999) but Slappy Happy Rhythm Buster which didn't get released till June of 2000 made the list.

In light of these games not being included i had to vote for these.
The Marvel / X-Men vs Street Fighter Games
The Battle Arena Toshinden Games
Fighter`s Megamix
The Bloody Roar Series (BR 1&2)
Guilty Gear(Mistake as i didn't realize Fighting Viper was there)

eretsvaju  :sugoi: just because it was not in the list, to be different, to get attention.

S.D.

If you're gonna be a weeaboo at least get the name right, it's Eretzvaju, also Girard already mentioned it.

"Bad News" Hoffmann

Allow me to beg your indulgence for one moment you two!
Its Evil Zone!
You dont always call Fatal Fury , Garou Densetsu or Samurai Shodown Samurai Spirits. And when was the last time anyone here called Art of Fighting Ryuuko No Ken? So stop calling that name Eretzvaju everytime :P

i win!

Oh yes i love being GBK..i fucking love it!

Seriously, it was a nice game but more because its story telling and its characters..not because its gameplay.

Saikoro

Very impressive listing GBK. I cast my votes based off of my following tastes (in order of first to fifth):

Tekken Tag Tournament
Soul Calibur
Killer Instinct
X-Men VS Street Fighter
Street Fighter Alpha 3

All I have to say is that MAME is a fucking godsend when it comes to nostalgia: I've got 100's of titles running smoothly through my '42 Samsung LCD with PS2 controllers. Yeah, Mugen looks sweet as well. I grew up playing a majority of these titles back when arcades were in their prime. That's a feeling you can't beat, and a feeling emulation can't replicate.
All of your Mugen Portrait needs may be found HERE.

I'd like to report two robots on the MFG forums: One is EXShadow. The other is Saikoro.

There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

If you're gonna be a weeaboo ...
I can't, since I'm asian to begin with  :-\

But OK then:
Kizuna Encounter
Battle Master
Bushido Blade 2
Tobal 2
Metal and Lace 2

"Bad News" Hoffmann

Argh..now the Bushido Blade and the Tobal games are both series i should have included to this list..but as others pointed out there were so many great fighting games released in those ten years.

Wasnt Tobal No1 the first game with the 8way run..more or less?
